

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Magdalene Highsmith, his parents, Edith and Claude Highsmith, and his brother Bobby Highsmith. He is survived by his devoted daughter, Debbie Falkner, brother David Highsmith, three grandchildren — Madison, Kaitlyn, and Megan — and four great-grandchildren — Mason, Clark, Easton, and Juliet.
A founding member of Westover United Methodist Church, Tommy was a lifelong member of Methodist Men and was deeply devoted to his church community. Each year, he took great pride in managing the church’s fair booth, a tradition he led with heart, faith, and enthusiasm.
Tommy was also a passionate NC State Wolfpack football fan, always cheering on his team with pride. He loved spending time on the golf course, where his easy laugh, friendly nature, and kind spirit made him a favorite among friends.
Tommy worked for Carolina Trailways for 41 years, where his strong work ethic and friendly personality earned him the admiration of coworkers and passengers alike.
Above all, Tommy was a family man who found joy in every moment spent with his loved ones. His warmth, integrity, and faith left an everlasting mark on all who knew him. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered for his gentle heart, steadfast faith, and unwavering devotion to God, family, and community.
A visitation for Tommy will be held on Saturday Oct 11, 2025 from 5:00pm - 7:00pm at Mitchell Funeral Home, 7209 Glenwood Avenue, Raleigh, NC 27612. The Funeral Service will be held on Monday, October 13, 2025, at 11:00am at Westover United Methodist Church. Burial will follow in Raleigh Memorial Park.
