Eleanor Wilson was born May 5, 1929 in Wilmington, NC to Elizabeth Freeman Pope and Willis Grover Pope. She attended Flora MacDonald College. On March 14, 1951, she married Dr. Walter Howard Wilson, a WWII veteran of the Army Medical Corps, who practiced internal medicine in Raleigh until his death in 1981. The Wilsons were members of the Edenton Street Methodist Church.
She was predeceased by her parents, her husband Walter Howard Wilson, brother Robert Willis Pope, and sister Anne Pope Melvin.
Mrs. Wilson is survived by her five children, Eleanor (Van) Taylor, Charleston, SC; Nancy (Edwin) Tucker, Blowing Rock, NC; Sarah (Mike) Woodard, Durham, NC; Mary Ashley (David) Brook, Raleigh, NC; and Walter (Lou) Wilson, Advance, NC. She is also survived by nine grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
A visitation will be Sunday, February 11th from 3 pm to 5 pm at Brown Wynne, 300 St. Mary’s Street, Raleigh, NC 27605. A private graveside service will be held at Oakwood Cemetery with the Rev. Krysha Jamis of the Edenton Street Methodist Church officiating.
Mrs. Wilson’s family also extends deep appreciation to her compassionate and attentive caregivers Freda Dodoo, Ashley Credle, Jacque Henderson, and Linet Abuya.
