Elinor and her husband, Danl Keys, were blessed with two daughters, Dawn Strain and Candace Keys. She was a proud and loving grandmother to Logan Strain and Rachel Strain. Her extended family also held a special place in her life, including Jerry Strain, Tom Parsons, and Emi.
Elinor’s greatest joy and purpose in life was being a devoted mother and grandmother, offering love, encouragement, fashion, and stability. She was a loving mother to Dawn and Candace, guiding them through both the joyful and difficult times with unwavering care. She was also a devoted wife to her husband, Danl, sharing nearly six decades of marriage since their wedding in 1967. Elinor played an active role in helping raise her grandchildren, treasuring every moment she spent with them.
Elinor was like a mother to everyone, whether in her neighborhood or cheering as a dedicated sports mom. She was remembered for her love and selflessness. She loved the beaches of North Carolina and spent countless happy times at her second house in Emerald Isle, enjoying the coast and sunshine with her family. Elinor especially enjoyed her Cadillacs over the years and took pride in driving her convertible green Corvette. She was a true animal lover, rarely without a dog by her side or in her lap and even named one of her beloved Maltese after her mother, Katie.
A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, September 2, 2025, at 1:00 p.m. at Raleigh Memorial Park, 7501 Glenwood Avenue, Raleigh, North Carolina. The family welcomes friends and loved ones to join in honoring and celebrating Elinor’s life.
