Elizabeth was born in Milwaukee, WI to Roy and Charlotte Cappon Blackmun on April 24, 1925. She grew up in Milwaukee and had fond memories of family vacations at nearby Cedar Lake. She was preceded in death by her sisters, Dorothy Schwartz, Sally, Margorie Patterson and Virginia Cook and her brother, Dick Blackmun. She is survived by her brother, John Blackmun.
Elizabeth was married to Earl George Larsen on September 20, 1947. They were married for 54 years before Earl passed away in 2001. They lived in Wisconsin and Oklahoma while raising 4 children and losing one child, Craig, as an infant. They moved to northwest Arkansas to enjoy their retirement in a country setting on Beaver Lake. Elizabeth moved to Norman, OK following Earl’s passing and then to Raleigh, NC.
Elizabeth was a woman of many endeavors and accomplishments. After being a dedicated mother and homemaker for many years, she earned a BA degree from the University of Central Oklahoma (and later a Master’s Degree from the University of Oklahoma). She then taught 5th grade for 18 years to supplement the family income so all her children could attend college. Elizabeth played cello in the Oklahoma City Symphony and sang in many choirs. She was an avid and talented watercolorist, attending watercolor workshops even in her later years. She tutored several people in learning English as a second language. Elizabeth attended the Unitarian church for most of her adult life. Playing bridge and reading were two of her favorite pastimes. She also enjoyed playing fun card games and doing crafts and baking with her grandchildren. Going to plant nurseries was her ideal shopping trip.
Elizabeth is survived by her daughter, Gail (Gary Cueves) Larsen, her sons, Scott (Sherry) Larsen and Rex Larsen, and her daughter, Wendy (Don) Murphy, 8 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren and her brother, John Blackmun.
Elizabeth’s memorial service was held at Mitchell Funeral Home in Raleigh Memorial Park on Sunday, January 14, 2024.
