Rick was foremost a Christian and dedicated to the Word of God. He enjoyed studying the Bible in home groups, and he led several people to Christ. He was baptized at Brooks Avenue Church of Christ in Raleigh, and attended several area churches throughout his 40 years in Durham, including The Summit, where his current men's Bible study group was a joy to him. He was involved in the prison ministry and supported many world-wide ministries, including Patty's Noteworthy Christian Music ministry which has touched millions with the message of hope in Christ.
He graduated in 1975 from Reynolds High School in Winston-Salem, NC where he played varsity baseball and football. He graduated with a BS from NCSU in 1981 in Raleigh, NC where he majored in Math.
He worked as a programmer at a textile mill in Rock Hill, SC. prior to joining the BCBS of NC IT team where he was a Sr. Programmer/Analyst for over 30 years. His co-workers always had a comical story about Rick.
He retired in 2014, and spent many enjoyable days on the golf course with friends. He loved all things NC State and was frequently helping the teams from his armchair, coaching and helping catch passes or sinking a bucket.
Everybody he met became a friend and he enjoyed recalling family stories of parents, aunts, uncles and cousins.
