I worked with Fred for many years at Cormetech.  He was my boss.  We worked closely to grow the Cormetech business.   While a tough character at times, I enjoyed working with him and was shocked to learn of his passing today.  I express my deepest condolences to Joanne and his family.   Knowing Fred and how he fit he kept himself, I believed he would still be playing golf.  I hope the family is well.  I know he is missed.

Part 1

My brother Skip was endowed with some fabulous traits. He possessed superior size, strength, and intellect. He had the ability to communicate exceptionally well and was able to win any argument. He was tall, fit, good looking, and always well-groomed. He loved competition and had a real passion for winning. Skip was exceptional at all sports, from hitting mammoth home runs for the PBC team he played for, to playing touch football in street games, and handball at the town park. He was an excellent skier and was also the captain on the Stony Brook University 8-man skull team, where he rowed from the stroke position. In addition to his athletic ability, Skip also portrayed exceptional musical abilities. He participated in the Choir, Marching Band, Concert Band, and Dance Band. He played lead saxophone in his high school production of Brigadoon and was also in the NYSMA ALL STATE CONCERT Band where he was first alto, first chair. While in the ROTC, he played in Naval Base marching and concert bands. 

Furthermore, Skip had an exceptional school record. He was always an A student and was a member of National Honor Society. He went to Stony Brook University on an Engineering scholarship and graduated at the top of the first College of Engineering graduates. He entered Navy ROTC training after spending his college years attending Naval Reserve meetings for 4 years. He graduated HS in 1961 and SBU College of Engineering in 1965 and got married that same year.

For the first half of my life, he was my best friend. The street in front of our house was the neighborhood playground. We were always playing football, stickball, whiffle ball, stoop ball. He could always make me feel confident, and when he wanted to be funny he could make you laugh. He was my defender. There was an incident when after a boy scout meeting I received a beat up from the scout master’s son. When he saw a chance to avenge me at a Nassau County Boy Scout picnic, he got into a fist fight with him and took him out with an uppercut to the jaw. He taught me sports and he taught me how to drive.

In 1979 we ran our 1st marathon together, side by side, raising our arms, holding hands at the finish line. We finished the 26.2 miles in 3:45, which was good for a first. He convinced me that the human body was aerodynamically engineered and that running into a headwind was not a hinderance.  

My brother Skip was my best friend. We used to visit him for vacations. The vacations were always great. We used to try to visit 4 times a year. I wish we could still be living those vacations. Newport RI Carriage House, riding Vespas.  Philadelphia, PA. Bradford PA. (2 locations), Phoenix AZ,1st trip to Disneyland driving across the desert, Grand Canyon, Lake Havasu, Bradford PA and the Country Club. Great Vacations.

I loved my brother. He used all his natural assets so well, which made him so successful at business. Growing up with him, he was a tough act to follow. I am glad he is not suffering anymore. His body is healed and his mind is back.

I was Fred’s secretary at Corning Raleigh.  Fred was not only my boss, but I considered him a good friend.  He became one of the best bosses I ever had.  My deepest condolences to Joanne and family.

As his extended family, Jamie and I always felt welcome by Fred's warm smile. He had an unusually kind and open heart. He was loved by many and will be sorely missed, but never forgotten. May you RIP dearest Fred.

We say goodbye to our Mexican amigo, but retain some great memories of good times. Whether we were poolside or at the dinner table we had great conversations and many laughs. Hasta luego mi amigo, RIP. Love Nona and Kevin
