Gary grew up in an Irish Catholic family living in Pittsburgh and Philadelphia. He received a B.S. in Accounting and Finance from Robert Morris University in Pittsburgh and an MBA in Information Systems from Manhattan College in NYC. After working in CA and abroad for Exxon, he joined Pfizer in NYC and began a career in the pharmaceutical industry. He believed his greatest contribution was the real-time educational conferences for early HIV treating physicians across the country and abroad, which enabled them to effectively help their patients and to successfully use AZT. After working in several pharmaceutical companies, Gary retired to Raleigh.
Gary is survived by his wife Marie Avery Mickey, his daughter Jessica Ann Mickey, his daughter Caroline Wiggs Cate and his son John Kent Wiggs.
