

George Kaloyannides died Thursday, October 8, 2015 at home in the arms of his beloved wife Sue. He was born on October 5, 1935 in Brooklyn, NY to Thales and Penelope Kaloyannides. Shortly after his birth his parents moved to Durham and then to Raleigh. George attended public schools in Raleigh and graduated from Hugh Morson High School in 1954 and the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill in 1958. Aside from his time in the army and living in Charlotte and Nashville, Tennessee for one year each, the majority of his life was spent in Raleigh. He was in the property and casualty insurance business with several companies as well as a short time with the Department of Insurance, retiring from Carolina Casualty in 1998. His work was in underwriting, then marketing and public relations.
He is predeceased by his mother and father.
He is survived by his wife Sue Weathers Kaloyannides, his daughter, Thalia Bradley and her husband Robert; and son, both from a previous marriage, Manuel and wife Kim, as well as two granddaughters.
He considered his wife’s sisters, sister-in- law, a niece and two nephews, as well as their spouses, as integral and important members of his family.
He was a life-long member of Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church in Raleigh and served on the Parish Council and other committees. He belonged to Ahepa as a lifetime member, an organization comprised of Greek immigrants or the descendants who were of Greek ancestry who helped the church and were supportive in many charitable ways.
He was a member of North Ridge Country Club, as well as a lifetime member of the UNC General Alumni Association, and a past member of Toastmasters International, a member of the American Legion, the Raleigh Sports Club and the Old Raleigh Boys Club. He loved his many friends, some life-long, as well as those made along the way through his work, church and social contacts.
His character was marked by loyalty and trustworthiness.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, October 11 from 6:00 – 8:00 P.M. at Brown-Wynne Funeral Home on St. Mary’s Street. A Trisagion Prayer Service will begin at Brown-Wynne at 6:30pm. On Monday, October 12 at 11:00 A.M. a Liturgy celebrating George’s life will be held at Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church, 500 Lead Mine Road, Raleigh, 27612. Burial will follow at Historic Oakwood Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church for the building fund or the SPCA of Wake County, 200 Petfinder Lane, Raleigh, NC 27603.
