Gertrude Petko

Trudy Petko, 83, of Raleigh, passed away on April 6, 2020. She was preceded in death by her husband, Donald S. Petko; parents, Stephanie and Anton Pelwecki; brother and sister-in-law, Skip and Connie Pelwecki; and sister, Ida Vantuian.

Trudy was born in Austria, but lived most of her life in Ohio and North Carolina. She was a devoted servant of God, and member of St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church. She often performed her Christian duties by an outreach program that allowed her to visit members who could no longer attend church. Until her retirement, Trudy also gave in many ways through her career as a Registered Nurse.

In her spare time, Trudy loved to sew, often making her own clothing. She also loved square dancing and line dancing. She often traveled with the many friends she made dancing. Through dancing she met Otis, who became her final dancing partner as well as husband.

Trudy is survived by her husband, Otis Sykes; children, Darrin Petko and his wife, Karen and Dwayne Petko and his wife, Joy; step-sons, Michael Sykes and his wife, Kerry and Milton Sykes; grandchildren, James, Charlotte, Sarah, Michael Travis, Roxanne and Cindy; and brother, Henry Pelwicki and his wife, Nancy.

A private interment will take place in the near future at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church, with a memorial service planned for a future date.
