Nancy Glenda Jolly Holloway, 83, of Raleigh passed away Monday, January 13, 2025, at Hillcrest Retirement of Raleigh. Glenda was born on January 17, 1941, in Wilkes County, NC, to the late Ulysses Dalon Jolly and Treva Juanita Crabb Jolly.
She grew up in Elkin, NC with her sister, Sheldon Jolly. She married at a young age, but eventually obtained her GED and later, two years of college at Surry Community College. She worked for many years as a teacher's assistant and later in hospital administration at Hugh Chatham Memorial Hospital. She was a lifetime Methodist and always had membership in a local church. After her husband, Clyde, passed she moved to Raleigh, NC and became a Stephen's Minister which was so true to her nature of loving and caring for others.
Mother loved people from all walks of life, but her affection for children was tremendous. She taught Sunday school, worked in the church nursery, participated in the PTA, was active with the Woman's Club and many other civic volunteer organizations. It was mother who got out in the backyard and taught us all how to play softball. She had a gift for hitting the ball over the pine trees and all the children were amazed at her ability. Children just naturally gravitated toward her. She enjoyed cooking and an assortment of craft projects.
In addition to her parents, mother is preceded in death by her twin sister, Linda Jolly and her husband, Raymond Clyde Holloway.
She is survived by her beloved son, Dwayne Holloway, his partner, David Stroud of Raleigh, NC; her sister, Sheldon Burcham; and brother-in-law, Ralph Burcham of Stuart, Virginia.
A memorial service to honor and celebrate Glenda's life will be held on Saturday, January 25, 2025, at 11:00 am at The Episcopal Church of the Good Shepherd, 125 Hillsborough St., Raleigh, NC 27603. A reception will follow the service in Shepherds Hall, at the church.
The family would like to thank the nursing home staff, nurses and doctors at Hillcrest Retirement, especially Tammy Miles, for their care and love over the past seven plus years. It was also a blessing that her nephew, Nathan Holloway, worked at Hillcrest as a physical therapy assistant, thus she could see a family member almost every day.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the SPCA of Wake County at 200 Petfinder Lane, Raleigh NC 27603 or the Music Ministry at the Church of the Good Shepherd, 121 Hillsborough Street Raleigh, NC 27603.
Service arrangements provided by Brown-Wynne, 300 Saint Mary's St., Raleigh, NC.
