

Harry Franklin Jackson, 89, passed away on Monday, September 24, 2018 at Windsor Pointe in Fuquay-Varina. Born on May 19, 1929 in Norfolk, VA; he was the son the late Edward Rodney Jackson and Alice Jones Jackson and brother of the late Roy and Norman Jackson.
Harry graduated from Portlock High School in 1946, Mars Hill Junior College in 1949, Wake Forest College in 1951 and served honorably in the US Coast Guard from 1951-1954. Following his service, Harry returned to his education and received his Master's Degree from the University of Tennessee in 1956 in Educational Administration and Supervision. Following his graduation, Harry married June Marie Lynch in June of 1956. He continued as a 7th grade teacher in the Knox County School System
Harry's career in Engineering began that following year in 1957 at Oak Ridge National Laboratory in Inspection Engineering Department. He went on to independent consulting in the field of Quality Assurance, Welding, Nondestructive Examination and other elements of construction for the nuclear industry. He retired in 2003 and together Harry and June relocated to the Raleigh area from Worthington, Ohio in 2004 to be closer to their daughters and grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife of 62 years, June Lynch Jackson; daughters: Patricia Reynolds and husband Jerry, of Clayton and Pamela Smith, of Raleigh; grandchildren: Lauren Smith, Dustin Smith and wife Melissa, Jessica Gilkerson and husband Jeremy and Christopher Reynolds; and by his two great-grandsons: Jackson Smith and Miles Gilkerson.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, September 29th from 2:30-3:00 pm at Mitchell Funeral Home (7209 Glenwood Avenue), with Graveside Services to follow at 3:30 pm at Raleigh Memorial Park.
