

Helen was a recent resident of Magnolia Glen in Raleigh, and moved in July with her daughter to Lynchburg, Virginia. Helen was born in Reading, Pennsylvania and made her career as a receptionist at The Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory for 27 years in Maryland. She retired to Venice, Florida with her second husband where she became active in her community. Helen was a volunteer at the Venice Hospital and with a local hospice organization.
Helen is survived by four daughters, Carol Brown of Frederick, MD, Suzanne Klein of Winston Salem, NC, Kathleen Larson of Sarasota, FL, Paula Gilman of Lynchburg, VA, and step-son, Steve Heffernan of San Diego, CA; nine grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; brother, Fred Levan; and Zuwena Mukandekezie, a caregiver who became part of the family. The family would like to express their sincere gratitude to Wake County Hospice of Raleigh and Centra Hospice of Lynchburg for their love and care they showed Helen.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, January 11, 2014 at 3pm at Mitchell Funeral Home, 7209 Glenwood Ave, Raleigh, NC.
