On the isthmus of Panama, in the city of Panama, in the town of Pueblo Nuevo Henrietta was born to William and Ruby Lambert on June 21,1949. She grew up as a quiet yet confident child. Henrietta was raised the third of four children (Janis, Norman [deceased], and Calvin). Henrietta knew at a young age that she was called by God to be an educator. Soon after, Henrietta would attend Universidad Adventista de Centroamerica in Costa Rica to be a teacher.
Henrietta and Robert began their courtship in Panama and continued their commitment when they moved to Brooklyn, New York. They married and began their family, having four lovely daughters. Henrietta was an amazing cook who loved music. She played piano and was also known to relax herself with fishing and sewing. A wife to a Navy man, Henrietta moved to various places along the east coast of the United States, engaging as an active member of Adventist churches in Brooklyn, Chicago, Philadelphia, Mississippi, Florida, and North Carolina. She was last a dedicated church member and officer of Berean SDA Church.
The fire for Christian Education burned in Henrietta’s heart. After graduation she taught at La Escuela de Republica de Costa Rica. She also taught in Philadelphia church schools, Johnston County Public Schools in North Carolina, Gethsemane Church School in Raleigh, North Carolina, and Berean Junior Academy in Charlotte, North Carolina. She served as principal at both Gethsemane and Berean. Her passion for young people did not begin and end with education. For 20 years, she was consistently involved with Pathfinders along with her four children, and maybe your children as well. The concept of retirement was much different for her than for some other people. She used her new free time to (of course) dedicate herself to caring for young children, serving as the Director of Berean Junior Academy Preschool in Charlotte, NC at the end of her life.
Henrietta Elizabeth Bishop Lambert took her rest in the Lord on February 26, 2022. We look forward to the coming of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, when we will be united again. She was a kind, strong, nurturing servant of the Most High God. She is survived by her husband, Robert, and her daughters Keysha, Tahisha, Roberta (son-in-law Joshua Knight), and Nadielka.
A memorial service for Henrietta was held Monday, March 7, 2022 at Durham Immanuel Temple Seventh Day Adventist Church, 2102 S. Alston Avenue, Durham, NC 27707.
