

James, known to his friends as Bryce, was born to James and Marion Cummings, on July 28th, 1941, in Greenville, North Carolina. He received a bachelor’s degree in Education from East Carolina University. After graduation, he preceded to receive 2 masters degrees in both Geography and Education at East Carolina University. Bryce completed his education at Duke University, receiving his PhD in Education. He dedicated his life to serving the school system of North Carolina where he touched many lives.
Bryce is survived by his wife Jayne Cummings. He is also survived by his son, Jim Cummings, and his wife, Amy Cummings, along with three grandchildren, Mackenzie, Hayden, and Stone. Bryce was predeceased by parents, James and Marion, and his daughter, Megan Cummings.
Aside from his love and devotion for his family, giving back to his community was significant in Bryce’s life. He was not only a mentor for many, but always available to support others. Being a Christian was very much a part of Bryce’s life and he was impassioned about sharing his love for Jesus. Later in life, he became a published author. His book titled “A Sinner Saved by Grace” is a testimony to Bryce’s life. Bryce positively impacted our community and will be truly missed by many.
A celebration of life will be held on Monday, April 24th at 3:00pm at Christ Baptist Church, 400 Newton Rd, Raleigh, NC 27615. A reception will be held after the service where the family will receive friends.
