James “Jim” Bryan Newton died Friday morning January 19 2024 at the Durham VA Hospital. Born on August 15, 1946 in Raleigh, North Carolina; he was the son of the late Ray Jackson Newton and Loretta Mae Bryan Newton, brother to the late Rayetta Newton Rodemaker and husband of the late Dr. Leslie Phelps Newton.
A devoted family man and nature lover, he had enjoyed taking trips through national parks and fly fishing when the chance arose. He was a knowledgeable figure and guide for family and friends, who would always lend his expertise in projects from car and house repair to general advice on achieving any goal. His love of cinema and movies made him a challenging opponent in trivia games. He always had a way of lighting up a room with his smile and jovial personality and sharp wit.
He is survived by children, Christopher James Newton (Dr. Lisa Wiltron) and James Cameron Newton; grandchildren, Keira Newton and Connor Newton. As well as Shon Price and Britt Hart who were practically adopted by the family.
Graveside Committal Services, with Military Honors will be held on Saturday, January 27, 2024 at 11:00 am at Oakwood Cemetery.
