

Jane Carolyn Snyder Norris, age 91, died at the Springmoor Health Center the morning of February 18, 2026. Jane was born in Winston-Salem, N.C., on October 1, 1934, the fifth and youngest daughter of the late Treva Shore Snyder and John Wesley Snyder. She grew up in rural southern Forsyth County and spent her summers working in the packhouse of her father’s peach orchard. She attended Griffith School for twelve years and graduated in 1952.
Jane studied at the School of Nursing at UNC Chapel Hill and graduated in the school’s second nursing class in 1956. She met her husband, Thomas Lloyd Norris, Jr., while at Chapel Hill, and they were married in 1956.
Jane began her nursing career as a public health nurse in Atlanta, Georgia. She then became a clinical nursing instructor at the School of Nursing at UNC. She stepped away from nursing to be full-time mother to her four daughters.
Jane belonged to the nursing fraternity Sigma Theta Tau and the Samuel Johnston Chapter of the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution. She and her husband were founding members of the UNC School of Nursing Foundation. She was a member of Raleigh Moravian Church, where she served in many capacities.
Jane is predeceased by her husband of 62 years, Thomas Lloyd Norris, Jr.; by her stepmother, Pearl Longworth Snyder, and by her four sisters, Elizabeth Johnson, Hilda Williams, Margaret Harrison, and Anne Foltz.
Jane is survived by her four daughters, Laura Norris Pecoraro and husband Bob, Carolyn Elizabeth Norris and husband Marc Fowler, Margaret Ann Norris and husband Keith Stirewalt, and Florence Norris Mathon and husband Bernie; 10 grandchildren, Major Edward Pecoraro (US Army), Lillian Pecoraro and husband Jason Reck, Vincent Pecoraro and wife Nicolette, Kathryn Stirewalt Brown and husband Jon, Thomas Stirewalt and wife Mackenzie, Christopher Stirewalt, Temujin Norris, Eli Norris, Kyla Mathon Leamon and husband Daulton, and Danielle Mathon Bragg and husband Jordan; four great grandchildren, Bryce Brown, Audrey Kate Brown, Arthur Reck, and Colin Reck; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, February 28, at 2:30 pm at Raleigh Moravian Church, 1816 Ridge Road, Raleigh, NC 27607, followed by a reception and visitation with the family in the fellowship hall.
