She was preceded in death by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. James Daley; her brother, Michael Daley; and her sister, Ann McCartin.
Jean is survived by her husband, Donald Stanley Price; daughters, Mrs. Meredith Beadles, and her husband, Chris, Mrs. Stephanie Price, and her husband, Brian Bytnar; and her grandchildren, Annelise, Lorelei, Bryn and Owen.
Jean was born in Newark, NJ on February 5, 1941. Her family moved her to California when she was a baby. There she was educated in private Catholic schools before going to the University of California in Santa Barbara for her undergraduate degree in History, with a minor in English. She received a teaching credential and taught in those two subjects in Glendale, CA. She returned to college in 1968 to earn a degree in Music at California State University Northridge, and a Masters degree in Vocal Pedagogy at Occidental College under Dr. Howard Swan. She was hired by Westlake School for Girls in Beverly Hills to be their music director, where she taught many children of Hollywood stars, conducted musicals and choruses, and received rave reviews. She was selected by the Southern California Vocal Association to adjudicate their festivals.
Jean lived a full life. She taught Voice at Los Angeles Community College and privately in her home studio. She was a soprano soloist for ten years at the First Congregational Church of Los Angeles, singing leads in their yearly Bach Music Festival with the Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra. She sang for weddings, and at La Strada Cabaret restaurant in Glendale on the weekends. When her family moved to Virginia, Jean became certified in Orff/Schulwerk Music technique, and began teaching this method in elementary schools in Fairfax, VA. She sought out ways to reach her diverse ethnic community through musical shows - choreographing creative dances, folk dances, Irish Riverdance ensembles, Barbershop Quartets, musicals, and directing 100+ children in chorus every year. Jean received the highest evaluation for teachers in Fairfax County - "Exemplary". She retired from teaching after 20 years of service.
Jean and her husband shared a love of travel, outdoor adventures, concerts, and history. They met in the American Youth Hostel organization. They traveled extensively before and after their children were born through the US, Europe, Mexico, Canada, the Caribbean, Alaska, and Tahiti. After retirement, Jean volunteered for the Crisis Pregnancy Center, was active in Precepts Bible Study, small group bible studies, prayer groups with her church, and ministering to foreign students. She also became a guide for World Strides Christian Discovery Department for ten years, guiding Providential History tours for 8th graders from Christian schools around the US through DC, Virginia, and Pennsylvania. She joined the Montpelier Foundation to be one of their guides at the Madison Estate, and taught classes on the Constitution to adults in Charlottesville. She volunteered at Martha Jefferson Hospital as a Patient Advocate. She loved to play tennis, garden, read, and pray with her friends. When she and Don moved to Durham, NC, she became active in her Carolina Arbors community Women's Bible Study.
Jean had a stroke in November 2021, which caused her sweet husband to support her with love and devoted care. Jean has been blessed many ways in her life and can rest now knowing that her family has declared Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior. She is resting in His arms now and is experiencing the reward of His promise: John 5:24 "Most assuredly, I say to you, he who hears My word and believes in Him who sent Me has everlasting life, and shall not come into judgement, but has passed from death into life." Praise the Lord!
A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Saturday March 14, 2026 at 3:00pm at Bayleaf Baptist Church, 12200 Bayleaf Church Rd, Raleigh, NC 27614, with a second Celebration of Life Service being planned at Grace Community Church in Charlottesville, Virginia with a date and time to be announced.
