I had the distinct pleasure having Dr Greenhut as my professor at the University of Maryland. He was far and away the best teacher I ever had. My condolences to his family.

I shared a little bit today, or by now yesterday, at uncle Jeff’s memorial service and I thought to myself, during that service, “Should I share something?”, “What should I share?”, “How can contribute to the lasting memory of this person that resonates with those that know and love him?”

What can we highlight and be admirable of?
I don’t want to just share something anecdotal. I want to share something meaningful. 

Everyone deserves to have their loved ones do the work to try to put into words the essence of that person’s story. Preserving them in memory and having a universal knowledge and memory of that person for future generations.

In my mind and heart, I’ve always felt like these are the situations that ask for our boldness because there will always come a time when our kids say, “what was uncle Jeff like?”, or “Tell me more about my great grandmother.”

Jeff valued himself as a historian and he knew the importance of having and sharing preserved history. I heard him say the old adage that history is written by the survivors, in the context of loved ones, the winners, in context of war, but most importantly history is only written by those that take the time to write it. 

Preserving memory was important to Jeff, as we reflected on the quotes of Winston Churchill in his memorial program less than 24 hours ago. 

I thought to myself, “Good for Uncle Jeff!” Most people do not have the chance to contribute to their own memorial service. The way that they are remembered, the emotional tone that they want their loved ones to have.

He was able to be intentional with forethought even in that moment.

To the family and loved ones of Jeffrey,

I had the privilege of knowing Jeffrey over the past couple of years through my work. 
In our sessions together we shared stories, laughter, and the kind of quiet understanding that only comes from genuine connection. He became more than a client; he became a dear friend. His kindness, wisdom, and gentle encouragement left a lasting impact on me.
One of the most special things he did for me was to believe in me when I doubted myself. He pushed me to apply to nursing school, and it was his encouragement that gave me the courage to take that step. I recently found out that I was accepted to FAU’s accelerated nursing program and it breaks my heart that I didn’t get to say thank you, or to let him know how much his support meant to me. But I carry his words and spirit with me as I move forward on this path he helped guide me toward.
He will be dearly missed, and I’m grateful for the time we had. May he rest in peace, knowing he made a difference in more lives than he may have realized—including mine.

Jeff was a great friend and neighbor. When he joined our neighborhood men’s breakfast group, he fit right in. He was insightful and challenging making for some lively discussions. His stories were always interesting. He will be missed.

Words fall short for us at this time. It’s hard to believe that our dear friend Jeff has passed and we are heartbroken.  We were part of the Fun Bunch with Jeff and Betsy, a group of friends that hosted cool activities such as trips, dinners, and dancing. We will never forget the trip that Jeff and Betsy planned at Gettysburg. Jeff gave a history lesson to the group before we toured the historical sites. He was so passionate about military history. Jeff touched so many lives. Although his absence is deeply felt, our memories have a special place in our hearts. Rest in peace, dear friend.

It is with sadness to learn of Jeff’s untimely passing.   He will be remembered as an intellectual, well spoken and well read, an engaging personality with enthusiasm and curiosity for life.  Our many bridge games were stimulating and certainly lively.  The Villages in Florida  is where we last met and we simply began from where we left off years before without missing a beat.  His infectious smile told the story about his life, happy and entertaining so willing to engage making everyone feel comfortable. He will be missed.

We are so sorry for your loss.  We have played bridge many Mondays with Jeff.   Always a delight to be around.  Had a great smile.  We will remember him fondly.

So sorry to hear of Jeff’s passing. He was a great guy. I remember one time at the horse races we were talking about the possibility of negative things happening in the world and he mentioned that he was most afraid of a pandemic and a few years later he was right !!

Our memory of Jeff is filled with great examples of generosity and care. His military history lectures were so inciteful  and detailed. His contributions to our woodworkers club were always interesting and helpful. We will miss his smile and positive spirit
