John Arthur Hamilton

John Arthur Hamilton, passed away on April 18, 2012 at the Kitty Askins Hospice Center in Goldsboro. Born on July 9, 1933 in Raleigh, NC; he was the son of the late Guy Stephenson Hamilton and Julia Poole Hamilton and brother of the late Rupert Hamilton.

He graduated from Charles L. Coon High School in Wilson, NC in 1952 and joined the US Air Force after graduation. He was a Staff Sergeant working on classified information in Korea and Wyoming. Following his honorable discharge, John graduated with a degree in electrical engineering from NC State University in 1962. He worked for IBM in Endicott, NY and transferred to the Research Triangle in 1966. He took early retirement in 1992 after 30 years. Following retirement, he worked with Senior Net of Raleigh and was on the Board of Directors for the Raleigh Chapter and thoroughly enjoyed spending time with his family and dear grandchildren.

John is survived by his wife of 52 years, Irma Gray Leggett Hamilton, of Raleigh; daughter, Julia Hamilton Clarke and husband, Dr. D. Keith Clarke, of Goldsboro, NC; grandchildren, Ryan Keith Clarke and Amy Kathryn Clarke; siblings, Janet Francis Hamilton Maybry and husband John , of Campobello, SC and Larry “Lars” Hamilton, of Sanford, NC and many nieces and nephews.

Family will receive friends on Sunday afternoon, April 22, 2012 from 2-3 PM at Mitchell Funeral Home (7209 Glenwood Avenue in Raleigh), with services to begin at 3 PM. Interment, with Military Honors will follow at Raleigh Memorial Park.
