John Raymond Marks passed away Wednesday morning April 13, 2016 at the age of 85. John and his wife, the late Alice Marks, were born and raised in Detroit, MI. John and Alice were married in 1952. John served for a time in the Navy Reserves and then active duty during the Korean War from 1951 to 1955 including 8 months overseas. All three of their children were born in Detroit but in 1967, they moved to Alexandria, VA to raise their family. They spent their early retirement years at a home they had built in Pine Knoll Shores, NC and enjoyed spending time with their family and grandchildren. Given their frequent visits and love of Walt Disney World, they decided to spend the bulk of their retirement years in Kissimmee, FL. For nearly 16 years, they were happily employed at Walt Disney World and worked in the gift shops of the Disney Studios, helping to enhance the guests’ experiences. They also loved spending their spare time in the parks, just being a part of the magic.
John is survived by his son and daughter-in-law Bob and Pegi Marks of Raleigh, NC, grandson Paul Marks of San Jose, CA, son David Marks of Manassas, VA and son and daughter-in-law Michael and Lisa Marks of Manassas, VA.
During the last few weeks of his life, John was under the wonderful care of Transitions Life Care hospice services. His last hours were spent under watchful eyes of the caring staff in the Transitions Hospice Home. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Transitions Life Care of Wake County, 250 Hospice Circle, Raleigh, NC 27607.
