

John was born October 6, 1961 in Pensacola, Florida to Roger Sherman Otstot and Marjorie Newman Otstot. He moved to Raleigh, North Carolina in early 1963. John graduated from Sanderson High School and followed with a degree in Molecular Biology from N.C. State University. He retired in January 2020 from the NIEHS at RTP where he had been employed as a scientist in the PCR laboratory.
In John’s spare time, he was an avid woodworker, often spending hours in his garage working on various projects. He had a real passion for making canes and walking sticks for family and friends.
John was preceded in death by his father, Roger Otstot, and sister-in-law Alison Otstot. He is survived by his mother, Marjorie Newman Otstot and siblings: Charles Otstot (Suzanne), Kathy Abernethy, Ann Davis (Steve), and Bill Otstot. He is also survived by a large extended family.
There will be a memorial in John’s honor to be held Sunday, October 6, 2024, at 1:30pm in the Chapel of Mitchell Funeral Home, 7209 Glenwood Avenue, Raleigh. Please join us if you are able.
