On Tuesday, July 31, 2018, Joseph Patrick Caselles, 75, went to his eternal home leaving behind children, grandchildren and great grandchildren who dearly loved him. He was preceded in death by the love of his life, his wife, Dorothy. He told his children quite frequently that it was due to her patient love that he became a better man, that her strong moral compass helped set his feet on the right path at a time in his life when he needed it most.
When Joe wasn’t by Dottie’s side enjoying family gatherings, great cooking, traveling around the world or outings with close friends you would find him at one of his favorite places – an ocean beach or on his boat in the water. This was his greatest delight and where he found peace and contentment.
He particularly loved saltwater fishing and would often travel to tropical locations, such as the jungles of South America, where he could fish for rare types of fish. The joy he found in fishing was enhanced even further when he was able to share his passion by teaching his grandchildren how to cast, bait a hook and reel one in. His grandchildren have very fond memories of those special times spent with Grandpa Joe.
Friendships were very important to Joe and he had a few dear friends he greatly valued. He invested himself in maintaining those friendships, over time and distance. Some of those friendships go back to his early childhood days.
What few people know is that Joe was a quietly generous man who didn’t like to draw attention to the acts of kindness he would show to others in need. He gave back to his local community after retirement, by learning Spanish and then teaching English as a second language in his spare time.
He is survived by seven children – Joey (Lisa), Christine, Barbara Ellen (Ron), Marjorie, Robert (Nancy), Donna and Janet (Greg). Joe will also be sorely missed by his grandchildren who dearly loved him – Matthew, Michael, Katie, Michael, Melissa, Eric, Joseph, Sarah, Chloe, Rachel, Victoria, Jacob, Samantha, Maria and Michael, as well as, his great-grandchildren Ella, Kayla, Elizabeth, Alia, Sam, Scarlett, Charlie, Bailey, Holly, Avery and Harper.
A Service of Christian Burial will be celebrated in memory of Joe at 11:00 am on Tuesday, August 7, 2018 at the St. Mary of the Angels Chapel of St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Community - 11401 Leesville Road - Raleigh, NC.
Memory donations in honor of Joe can be made to Cuisine Care Packages – www.tickledpinksupport.com. It is a 501(c)(3) organization that provides free meals to breast cancer patients on their chemotherapy day.
