Judy was born in Raleigh, NC in 1942 to parents Haywood and Ethel Jones. She graduated from Cary High School and went on to receive her degree from Peace College. She dedicated her life’s work to serving the State Department of Mental Health in Human Resources where she was often overheard saying, “Beats working in tobacco.”
Judy had a very giving heart and always put everyone else’s needs and wants above her own. She often referred to herself as “a wonderful afterthought”; but to all who loved her, she was never an afterthought. She was our beloved “Bebe”, a nickname given to her by a young next door neighbor that stood for “Best Buddy”. That name stuck with her for the rest of her life. We were all so lucky to have Bebe in our lives and she will be missed dearly, especially her beautiful smile and heart-felt laugh.
Judy is predeceased by her husband, Edwin Burgess, and parents. Judy is survived by her loving son, Edde, and wife, Wendy of Raleigh; and by her two amazing grandchildren, Ella Varr and Edwin Burgess, III. Judy also leaves behind her brother, Donald C Jones and wife, Jerri; along with many other extended family members and close friends.
Visitation will be held at Mitchell Funeral Home, 7209 Glenwood Ave (Hwy 70 W) on Saturday, February 4th from 9:30-11:00 AM with a short graveside burial service directly afterwards at 11:30 AM at Brier Creek Memorial Gardens, 7600 Acc Blvd., Raleigh, NC 27617.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her name to The Raleigh Rescue Mission, a place that she held dear and liked to support whenever possible.
