Katharine Walker Cummings

Katharine Walker Cummings, a Raleigh native, was born on Christmas Eve 1938 and died on Independence Day 2021. She was the daughter of the late Thomas Henry and Elizabeth Johnson Walker. She is survived by her daughter Elizabeth and grandson, Noah Cummings.

Katharine was a graduate of Broughton High School, Duke University and had a Masters Degree from UNC-Chapel Hill. Her teaching career in English spanned Junior High, Senior High Schools and Community College, as well as business schools in Raleigh.

She enjoyed attending theatre, ballet, and the Symphony and never let many years of Multiple Sclerosis slow her down. Katharine served on the Arts Access Board of Directors and for years advocated on behalf of people suffering from mental illness. Her greatest love was St. Michael's Episcopal Church, where she served on the vestry, as a Sunday school teacher and in other capacities.

Her favorite pastime was playing Scrabble. She was a winner!

Funeral Service will be held on Thursday, July 22, 2021 at 2:00 pm at St. Michael's Episcopal Church - 1520 Canterbury Road - Raleigh, NC 27608. Memorial contributions may be made to the Holy Michael Foundation at the church in Katharine's memory.
