

Katharine D. ‘Dex’ McGill of Raleigh, NC, passed away suddenly on Sunday, November 2, 2025, at the age of 90. She was born on April 30, 1935, in Cambridge, MA where she grew up with her parents and brother.
She graduated from Shady Hill School in 1949 and Miss Halls School in 1953.
She worked for several years as an administrative assistant at the Colonnade Hotel in the Back Bay of Boston, MA, but for most of her life she was a beloved wife, mother and grandmother.
She was actively involved in the National Society of the Colonial Dames of America, the Dedham Choral Society, bridge, tennis, gardening, knitting and needlepointing.
She is preceded in death by her husband, R. Bruce McGill; parents, Francis W. Newbury and Priscilla P. Newbury; brother, Francis W. ‘Tare’ Newbury; son, Charles K. Bacon; daughter, Avril C. Bacon.
Katharine is survived by her son, Geoffrey W. Bacon and wife, Marilyn V. Bacon; a daughter-in-law, Ellen S. Bacon; grandchildren, Katharine W. Bacon, Genna B. Rehovich and Matthew S. Bacon; a sister-in-law, Susan E. Newbury, niece, Elizabeth W. Newbury, and nephew, Joshua W. Newbury; a niece, Hilary Gabrieli, husband, Christopher Gabrieli and children, John, Abigail, Lilla, Pauline and Nicholas; a niece, Brooks Bacon; a son-in-law, Michael McGill, wife Pucci McGill, and children, David McGill, Erin McGill; a son-in-law, David McGill, wife Barbara McGill and children, JJ McGill, Scott McGill.
The family would like to thank the many residents of Magnolia Glen who became cherished friends of Katharine and made her stay there feel like a second home, as well as the staff at Magnolia Glen for the care and compassion they showed Katherine.
Family and friends will be notified in the near future about a time and location where they may gather to honor and remember Katharine’s life.
