Kathleen "Kate" Manard Pate

She was born Kathleen Marie Manard on September 12, 1947. But for nearly 40 years, she’s proudly held the name of Kate Pate. She was originally from San Diego, California, but considered herself a true North Carolinian shortly after her arrival to Raleigh in 1974.

Her pride and joy was her daughters Kelly and Sarah, grandson Jack and the children she loved and cared for as a nanny for more than 18 years. She loved her husband Jay. She was proud to be called his wife and share her life with him.

She was passionate about life, people, and most importantly, Jesus. Her heart was to bless others and she often gave beyond her means as a way of sharing her faith and showing the unconditional love of Jesus.

She was a woman of joy, laughter, song and prayer. We rejoice in her homecoming and know that she is celebrating, dancing and singing loudly with the angels. She is home.

She is survived by her husband of 38 years, Jarvis H. Pate Jr., her daughter Kelly and her husband Paul Nguyen, and her grandson Jack; her daughter Sarah Pate; and her brothers Larry and Biff Manard. She was preceded in death by her parents Sherman E. and Margaret “Peg” Manard, and her brothers Dennis and Sherman Manard.

The family will receive friends from 7:00 – 9:00 pm on Wednesday April 14, at Mitchell Funeral Home, 7209 Glenwood Ave., Raleigh. The funeral service will be held at 1:00 pm Thursday April 15, in the funeral home chapel. Burial will follow at Raleigh Memorial Park.
