

Katie Lou McArthur Clary passed away in Raleigh on Monday January 4th, 2021. Katie was born May 17,1934 to Walter Henry and Irene Parks McArthur in Hoke County, North Carolina. She grew up in Robeson County and graduated from Red Springs High School. She then obtained her Nursing degree from Charlotte Memorial Hospital School of Nursing.
Katie took great pride in her career as a Registered Nurse and worked for many years at both Rex Hospital and with cardiac care patients at Wake Medical Center in Raleigh.
Katie is survived by her son Kent and daughter-in-law Crystal of Waynesville, NC; and granddaughter Hannah Rose Loman and her husband Austin of Raleigh, NC; and sister Catherine Deese of Charlotte, NC; nieces Cynthia Deese, Laura Brewer and nephew Chip McArthur. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 61 years Joe Clary, grandson Matthew Clary; brothers John Walter, Eugene, Malcolm and Willie Brown McArthur; sisters Mildred McArthur and Sally Chappell.
She was very active in practicing her faith through the years as a member of Crabtree Valley Baptist and Hayes Barton Baptist Churches. She enjoyed sports and was a long time supporter of both NC State Wolfpack and Ohio State Buckeye athletics. In her retirement, she found joy in gardening and traveling across the US and abroad.
In accordance with current COVID-19 restrictions, a private ceremony for immediate family and burial will be held at Raleigh Memorial Park on Friday, January 8th at 2:00 pm. For those interested in attending virtually, the service will be Live Streamed through the FaceBook Page of Mitchell Funeral Home at Raleigh Memorial Park (hyperlink below).
