

Lacey Delores Brewer passed quietly on August 23, 2012. “Dee” was born in Southern Pines, Moore County. Dee lived her professional life dedicated to improving the education and welfare of all children. She was educated at High Point College, and earned master’s degrees in Counseling and in School Psychology from UNC-Greensboro. She was a counselor in schools in Randolph and Alamance Counties and a school psychologist in the Greensboro Public Schools. Dee served as a researcher and program evaluator at the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction and at the Research Triangle Institute. She held the position of Senior Policy Research Analyst at SERVE, the Regional Education Laboratory for the Southeast, and as the Director of States and Studies for the education company, MetaMetrics. Dee was President of the North Carolina School Psychology Association, and the North Carolina Association for Research in Education.
Her personal life was a loving balance between family, friends, faith, animals, travel and music. She was a faithful Presbyterian, and for many years served the Raleigh community as a Stephen Minister. Dee loved music, especially the blues, and often travelled to hear her favorite musicians. While living in Greensboro, she was a founding member of the Piedmont Blues Preservation Society.
Dee is preceded in death by her beautiful son Jeff; her father Allen Lacy Brewer and her mother May Belle Britt Brewer. She is survived by her sister Gale Brewer Kling; her brother Rex Brewer; her brother-in-law Pete Kling; nephews Charles Daniel Snead and Thomas “Dusty” Snead; niece Taylor Brock Brewer; great niece Casey Snead; great nephews T.J. Snead, Tyler Snead, Jacob Brewer, Jason Brewer and Jax Brewer.
A graveside service will be held on Tuesday August 28, at 10:00 am, in Forest Lawn Cemetery, Greensboro NC. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 pm, on Tuesday, September 4, at White Memorial Presbyterian Church, 1704 Oberlin Road, Raleigh NC 27608. The family will receive friends following the services.
