August 29, 1960 – November 25, 2012
Raleigh, NC
The sweetest soul went home unexpectedly on Sunday, November 25, 2012. After a lifetime of giving kindness to all he knew, God chose him to make heaven brighter.
Lew was born in Roanoke, Virginia, the son of Nancy Cranford Welborn Coggins, who survives him. He was preceded in death by his father, William E. Welborn, Sr.
Lew’s love of the ocean began when his family moved to West Palm Beach, Florida at a young age. He moved to North Raleigh at the age of nine and called Raleigh home since then.
Lew is survived by his loving wife Joan Welborn of the home and his furry babies, Nellie and Coco. In addition to his mother Nancy, of Greensboro, NC and his brother William Welborn, Jr., of Kennesaw, GA, he will be missed by his extended family – parents-in-law, Henry and Barbara Cloutier of Sanford, NC; brother-in-law John Cloutier (Mary) of Sanford, NC; sister-in-law Ginny Shipley (Duane) of Johnson City, TN; brother-in-law Tom Cloutier (Lynn) of Stevensville, MD. Also surviving him are his beloved nieces and nephews, aunts and uncles and a host of dear, loving friends.
A memorial service to celebrate Lew’s life will be held on Friday, November 30, 2012 at 2 pm, at Pleasant Grove United Methodist Church in Raleigh. Lew will be laid to rest in Raleigh Memorial Park immediately following the service.
Memorials may be made to Wake County SPCA, 200 Petfinder Lane, Raleigh, NC 27603.
“What moves through us is a silence, a quiet sadness, a longing for one more day, one more word, one more touch, we may not understand why you left this earth so soon, or why you left before we were ready to say good-bye, but little by little, we begin to remember not just that you died, but that you lived. And that your life gave us memories too beautiful to forget.” unknown
May the angels lead you in.
