Lucille Ridout Lamm

She was welcomed into Heaven by her loving husband Vernon. She was the next to last of 8 Ridout children raised in Bracey Virginia. Learning to drive at 14 and farming tobacco before entering St. Josephs Nursing School in Richmond Va.

Lucille was a proud servant of the people as a Registered Nurse where she worked at the Old Rex Hospital before Dr; Lee Sanders stole her away for his pediatric practice with Dr. Charles Bugg. As a smooth shot giver , she transitioned to Dr Bill Farley when Sanders and Bugg retired. When his practice closed, Nurse Lucy Retired before being recruited to come pull charts for a summer at Tremont Medical Center. 17 years later she retired for good and began caring for Vernon , who she was married to for 50 years. A veteran of the Deblyn Park garden Club, Lucy could take a dead twig, stick it in dirt and later find a beautiful plant growing. She had been a long standing member at Benson Memorial UMC in Raleigh and a wonderful friend to so many over the years. Many that she treasured until the end. A master of the Fried chicken, homemade biscuits and gravy and of all southern cooking never had an empty table on Sundays. Neighbors mowed her grass for a spot at that table and she always welcomed family and friends into her loving home.

In 2003 she suffered a stroke and progressive brain injury led to dementia which she courageously battled with her devoted son at her side until the end.

She was known to her grand children as “GRA” and she so loved them and cared for them daily afterschool. And Now she is in Paradise!

Lucille is survived in death by her son David Lamm, his wife Penny Lamm. Grandchildern, Dylan Lamm, Hunter Lamm, sisters and brothers in law, Emma Gray Toman and Art, Pauline Evers and Garlond, sister in law Minnie Pearl Ridout, many great nieces and nephews .

She is preceded in death by her husband Vernon Lamm, Mother Gertie Pittard, Brothers and sister in laws Clarence Ridout, Ishmal Ridout and Mozelle, Jesse Ridout, Ronnie Ridout and Barbara, Sister Fanny Webb.

Visitation at Mitichell funeral home Thursday 5/29/14 6-8 pm

Funeral Friday 5/30/14 at 230 pm interment to follow the service at Raleigh Memorial Garden
