Lucille Hedges Smith

Lucille Hedges Smith, 94, of Raleigh, passed away peace¬fully surrounded by her fam¬ily on June 10, 2013. Lucille was born on August 21, 1918 in Wash¬ington, DC to the late Ernest and Eunice M c D o w e l l . Lucille was married to Robert Hedges in 1940. Bob was killed in action in Germany during World War II. Lucille married Leland Smith in 1954. She was happily married to Lee for 46 years. They lived in Bethesda, MD until his death in 2000. She then moved to Raleigh, NC to be closer to her family.

Lucille is survived by her children; Ron Hedges (Shirley), Dottie DeFrancis (Charlie), and Suzie Morris (Chuck). She is also survived by her grand¬children Tracey Hedges, Kelly Hedges-Klenk (Juergen), Kami Jones, Lynda Jones, Robert DeFrancis (Jennell), Michelle Simmons (Tony) and Ronnie DeFrancis. Lucille will also be greatly missed by her in-law and close friend, Evelyn De¬Francis, her nieces and eight great grandchildren.

A celebration of her life will be held at Trinity Baptist Church on Six Forks Road in Raleigh on June 14 at 11 am. She will be buried at Fort Lin¬coln Cemetery in Brentwood, MD.
