

Margaret Goode Bishop, 86, passed away peacefully on July 18, 2012. She was born on September 3, 1925, in Rutherford Co., NC, beloved daughter of the late General Winfield Scott Goode and Ila Causby Goode.
Margaret was a dedicated teacher prior to her retirement and a life-long student. She gave extensively of her time and efforts to numerous charitable organizations including Habitat for Humanity, The American Red Cross, Duke Children’s Hospital, March of Dimes, Prevent Blindness NC, and The Food Bank of NC. She was a member of Fairmont United Methodist Church and was active in the United Methodist Women. Margaret was a dedicated Kiwanian and served in local and state leadership roles for over 25 years. She was a member of Boone, North Carolina, chapter of The Eastern Star.
Margaret held a total of nine college degrees including three Doctorate of Education degrees. She taught English and served as media specialist in North Carolina, South Carolina, and Ohio. She served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.
She will be lovingly remembered by her sister, Dorothy Goode Bingham; niece, Julia Bingham Southwick and husband Richard; nephew, Richard Bingham and wife Elaine; and her great nieces, Jennifer and Jordan Bingham.
A graveside service will be held on Monday July 30, at 12:00 pm, at the Cliffside Cemetery, Cliffside NC.
A Memorial service will be held on Sunday August 5, at 3:00 pm, at Fairmont United Methodist Church, 2501 Clark Avenue, Raleigh NC. The family will receive friends following the service.
