Margaret Early, 94, of Brighton Gardens, 3101 Duraleigh Road, died peacefully on September 6, 2011. Margaret was born in Greenville, NC on May 19, 1917 to the late William Ashley and Maggie Wilson Hyman. She attended East Carolina College, and worked for several years for the Southern Bell Telephone Company.
Margaret was one of the nation’s few remaining Real Daughters of the Confederacy, as her father was a Confederate veteran who served in Company D, Forty-fourth regiment of North Carolina Troops. He was serving under General Robert E. Lee at the time of the surrender at Appomattox. Margaret was active in the membership of the United Daughters of the Confederacy, and enjoyed their company immensely over the years.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 53 years, Daniel Worth Early, and is survived by: son Daniel W. Early III and wife Connie of Lenexa, KS; daughter Katherine Moore and husband Bill of Belle Haven, VA; daughter Dana Hartis and husband Gilbert of Rolesville, NC; three grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
There will be a memorial service at Brighton Gardens on Saturday, September 10th at 11:00 a.m.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Paul’s Christian Church, 3331 Blue Ridge Road, Raleigh, NC 27612 or to a charity of one’s choice.
