Margaret Brunson Simkus

Margaret was preceded by Jesus, her parents Walter and Grace Brunson, her nephew Ken Cook, her grandson Chip Simkus, and her husband Anthony Paul Simkus, Sr. She is survived by her sister Helen Cook, her daughter Meg Smither and son-in-law Lee Smither, son Tony Simkus, Jr., grandchildren: Erin Morin, Tyler Smither, Dena Simkus, Ella Taylor, Anna Semon, Alex Simkus, and Tony Simkus IV, her niece Katherine Reed, and nephew Richard Cook. She was also Gigi to Della and Fisher Morin, and soon to be baby girl Taylor.

She was loved by many friends and church family from Highland United Methodist Church where she was a faithful member for over 40 years. She loved her Sunday school class, Circle #8, and the Garden Club. Her favorite activities and hobbies including gardening, painting, crafting, and traveling.

She was also dedicated to her alma mater, Meredith College, and was a volunteer for many years at Rex Hospital. Her early education work also included helping to create the art program at Millbrook Elementary.

A Private Family Graveside Service will be held the morning of Thursday, May 23, 2019 at Raleigh Memorial Park, followed by a Memorial Service at 2 pm at Highland United Methodist Church.

Family members request that in lieu of flowers, donations are made to Highland United Methodist Church (1901 Ridge Road - Raleigh, NC 27607) or a charity of choice in Margaret Simkus’ honor.
