

Mark Albert Seidenstein, 94, of Raleigh N.C. passed away at home, June 23, 2025. Mark was born in Philadelphia, Pa. to the late Harry and Rose Seidenstein. They lived there until he was 15 years old. The family then moved to Newport News, Va. After High school he enlisted in the Navy and was stationed in Key West, Florida where he was a radar operator. Mark met his future wife, Martha Astern, while she was working for the USO in Miami Beach.They Married in 1954 and moved back to Newport News when he got out of the Navy. After learning about N.C. State University from a neighbor, he decided to attend on the GI Bill.
He majored in Industrial Engineering and while in school, both of his children were born. After graduating, he took a job and moved the family to Lynchburg, Va. where he worked at Lynchburg Foundry as an Industrial Engineer. In 1965 he moved the family back to Raleigh where he worked for ITT.
In 1967, Mark went in a different direction and opened The International House of Pancakes on Hillsborough St. Over the 24 years he operated the restaurant in Raleigh, he also bought and operated an IHOP in Charlotte and Fayetteville. He was an active member of the N.C. State Wolfpack Club for many years and enjoyed attending State football and basketball games. When he retired from the restaurant business, he the opened, with his wife, a kitchen renovation business called Kitchen Facers/Klassic Kitchens.
Mark is preceded in death by his wife Martha Astern Seidenstein; sister, Geraldine Rosenkrantz; and son-in-law, James Albert Grooms, Jr..
He is survived by his son Jeff Seidenstein, daughter Sherry Grooms, Grandsons, Paul Blake, Justin Blake(Heather), and Ryan Blake(Rebecca). And 4 Great Grandchildren Oliver, Heidi, Shira, and Carter.
The family received visitors at the home of Sherry Grooms on Tuesday June 25th from 1pm-4pm.
Funeral Services were held at Brown-Wynne Funeral Home on Thursday June 26th at 11am at 300 St. Mary's St., Raleigh NC 27605 followed by a graveside ceremony at 12:30 at Raleigh Hebrew Cemetery at 450 N. State St., Raleigh. The family received visitors afterwards at the home of Sherry Grooms.
