Mrs. Martha McClain White, 79, of Raleigh, NC passed away on July 22, 2016 with her family at Transitions Life Care in Raleigh NC.
Martha was the daughter of the late David Wesley McClain and Edith S. McClain. She was born on May 2, 1937 in Brazil, IN. She spent much of her childhood there until the family moved to Rossville, GA during her high school years.
In the early 1950’s she met John White in Raleigh, NC and were married on August 22, 1959. They would have celebrated their 57th Anniversary this year. They found their church home at Tabernacle Baptist Church in downtown Raleigh and were active members for over 50 years. She was a deacon in the 1990’s, was an intricate part of planning the church's Homecoming events with her husband as well as participating in the church transition from the downtown location to the current location on Leesville Road.
Martha had a true love of God’s creation by her love of flowers, birds and butterflies. She joined the Hills & Pines Garden Club in 1975. For many years Martha lovingly created the year book with imagination, poems & special notations of friendship. “A man can be happy without a fortune, But he can never be happy without a friend” (Author Unknown). She was a generous soul in a troubled world that showed God’s love to her family, friends, and strangers with a kind word & beautiful smile. Her love of nature extended to Powder Horn Mountain, near Boone, NC, which was her favorite place to be. They found this piece of heaven on earth in the mid 1970’s where she and her family spent a lot of time hiking, hunting wild flowers and enjoying Mother Nature’s wonders.
She leaves her husband of 57 years John M. White, 2 daughters-Regina W. Hale & her husband Mark and Tonia W. Price & her husband Charlie. She also leaves her two grandchildren Morgan & Marcus Hale, and a brother, David S. McClain of Las Vegas, NV. She will be a truly missed wife, mother, grandmother and friend.
