Praying for comfort and strength for the Bankhead family.   Martin’s smile and kindness came naturally.  A gentleman and scholar at Bradley University.  So glad to see him enjoying Las Vegas with the BUBAA  men.  May God Bless you and give you peace.

Martin, I will miss our occasional breakfast at McDonald's, where you shared your plans for your new photography studio.   The world will miss you.  Take care.  As a believer in Christ, we will see you again in that "Great Getting Up Morning."

Martin I always looked up to you not only on the Basketball court. But also in the game of life. You walked your talk and you always gave your best. Thanks for sharing so much with so many. You are missed and your memory will always live near and dear to those who's life is changed for the better  just because our paths have crossed. You are united with an All-star cast who welcomed you home rest from your labor job well done my friend!

From my family to yours, we offer our condolences. This is not easy for me either right now, because of what he meant to all of us. I will always remember his smile and laughter. He always stood out, because of his kindness and compassion for others. When were little kids we attended the Methodist Church. I was called Patsy by many adults at the church. When Martin spoke to me , when we were little kids, Martin said "Passy."  When we became older, I called him "Mr. Banks."  Whenever we saw one another, he would hug me and "How have you been "Passy?", and I would say , "just fine Mr. Banks." We would  get the biggest laugh from that, we changed each others' name. He told me many years ago, that I was his "Passy", and I told him that he was my "Mr. Banks." Deepest heartfelt condolences to my classmate, Elaine (elementary, middle and high school), and the entire Bankhead family. Words cannot even touch upon how I feel right about now. I will always remember Martin from the days when he, Jerry Kellum, Hoover, Nook Adams, Flap and others, played basketball in Murphysboro, Illinois at the gym with the wood floor called "the Pit." Martin was the epitome of swag on and off the court. Swag in the sense of how one looked and presented himself; swag in the sense of knowing the importance of education; and swag in the ultimate goal of knowing who you are and WHOSE you are. He was so much taller than everyone else with a gentle giant spirit. May God bless you, strengthen you, keep and comfort you during this time and know that you are not alone. My mom (Delores) and bro (Roderick) send their deepest condolences as well.

On the basketball court, he was a tenacious defender, fast as a panther and a selfless team man. I will never forget trying to get around him during training....it was impossible as he was much too quick and resourceful for me. We all formed a unique and special bond during those years at Murphysboro.

But Martin was much more than a great basketball player. He excelled in all aspects of his life including education and work and was respected by all who came across him. Although it has been at least 10 years since I last saw Martin, I will always remember him as a man of high intelligence, integrity, great sporting prowess and, most of all, a good friend.

To Val and Martin's family, please accept my sincere condolences.  Rest in peace Martin. 

We met Martin through our brother Gary and  brother in law James Sullivan when we lived in Raleigh  NC.  We have warm memories of Christmas Eve parties and even several Christmas days  with Val and Martin. The last time we saw Martin was in Martha Vineyards in 2015 when we all together at a rented beach house.  We would like to send our condolences to Val and all of Martins friends and relatives.  

To the family of Martin, I’m a very close friend of Marisha. I never had a chance to really meet Martin but Marisha always spoke so highly of him and he was always her favorite uncle. My condolences go out to the family and Marisha I’m so sorry to hear of such loss. He will be miss by allot. Just praying as the family get the strength to get threw such hard time right now. I will keep your family in praying.

I'm sending my heartfelt condolences to the family of Martin Bankhead.    I never met him or any of you, but this case has been on my heart & in my prayers since I first heard of the abandoned car in my hometown.    I continue to pray for your strength & wisdom.

It is so heartbreaking to lose such a wonderful man. I’m thankful for my childhood memories of Martin. I’m praying for peace, comfort and healing for all family and friends. 

My heart is broken. I've known Martin for a long time. He was a good man. Always a smile on his face. I remember when he celebrated another friend Jerry Kellum, he made the day and he and his family made me feel better. I remember our reunion he was so classy and had made a point to talk to everybody. He was a Godly man. I will never forget him! R.I.P. Martin

I am truly hurting.  Loosing you is like loosing a brother. I have always looked up to you. When I think about you I think about Jerry. I was beyond blessed to have had both you and Jerry in my life. I am grateful for all of the encouragement I received from the both of you. You both inspired me to keep God first. You both encouraged me to put my education above sports. I will always remember the love you had for my parents. I  will always remember you like a brother. My prayers goes out to the entire Bankhead family. Rest in peace.

To The Bankhead Family...
I remember Martin coming over to our house along with J.K., and Melvin to watch the ballgames on t.v. with my brother Stanley. They would take turns watching the games over each others houses. They were all about education as they would see who could speed read the credits on the t.v. the fastest! Lol. There was lots of laughter when I was around Martin.
 I also remember seeing Martin at home when I would come over there to see Elaine. Each time I seen Martin he was always so chirpy and so respectful. Martin was also a very charming, intelligent and a smart young man. Martin was one of the most loving and kind hearted people I have ever met. R.I.H. Martin! 💝 God Definitely Has Another Beautiful Angel In Heaven!💝 I want the family to know that I truly send my Heartfelt, Deepest Sentiments to each of you. Martin will be missed on this earth, but we will see him again on the other side! Keep your heads up and hang on in there! To be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord!! I love all of you!💝
