

Marty grew up at the Oxford Orphanage in Oxford, North Carolina and graduated from Vance Academy in 1982 where he played basketball and football.
Marty loved people and his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. He was always upbeat and willing to help anyone in any way he could. He volunteered with various charities including the Prison Alliance Ministry and the Round Table Fellowship at Pullen Memorial Baptist Church. He was also active at his home church, Peace Presbyterian in Cary, from the time he joined in 2015 until he went home to heaven. At Peace he was active on the Comfort and Care Committee where he displayed mercy and compassion to those in need. Marty was also a Stephen Minister where he used his gifts of compassion and kindness to encourage others. Marty was also a faithful attendee and participant in Bible studies that meet on Friday mornings and Tuesday evenings in Raleigh. His faith was an inspiration to all who knew him. Over the last few years he found a new career with Visiting Angels where he discovered how much he enjoyed working with and helping older adults. Marty had several significant health problems but continued to persevere to serve Christ and others despite his own issues.
Marty was always quick with a joke and had a great sense of humor. He also was a big fan of his beloved North Carolina Tarheels. His big smile and affable nature will be missed by all who knew him.
Marty was predeceased by his parents and two older brothers. He is survived by his niece, Julie Parrish, of Gaffney, South Carolina.
There will be a graveside service for Marty on Friday, June 21 at 10:00 am at Raleigh Memorial Park and a memorial service on Saturday, June 22 at 2:00 pm at Peace Presbyterian Church,1777 W Chatham St., Cary, NC.
