He was born on September 2, 1933, to the late Egbert and Lee Craven Baldwin of Ramseur, NC. He grew up in Ramseur but spent most of his adult life in Raleigh after graduating from N.C. State University College of Engineering. He had a career in the furniture industry and later in state government. Upon retirement, he was able to enjoy many years of traveling with friends and family. He had a particular fondness for NCSU athletics, classical music, First Baptist Church, and his grandchildren.
Max was predeceased by his wife Doris Frazier Baldwin, to whom he was married for 66 years; sister, Frances Walker, and brother, Donald Baldwin. Max is survived by daughter Ann Baldwin Harris and husband Worth Harris, their daughters Sarah & Georgia Harris; and son John Frazier Baldwin and wife Kari Trumbull Baldwin, and their sons John and Will Baldwin. He is also survived by his sister-in-law Patty Baldwin-Kivett, and several nieces and nephews.
The family would like to thank the staff at the Cypress of Raleigh and Lauren Williams of Amedisys Hospice for their professional & attentive care which allowed Max to remain in his home.
The family is planning a private memorial service.
