

McKay “Mick” Lee Pettus, Jr., 83, passed away peacefully and in the comfort of his home on Monday morning, August 14, 2017. Born on March 14, 1934 in Little Rock, Arkansas; he was the son of the late McKay L. Pettus Sr. and Zelda Carmichael Pettus. Following his high school graduation, Mick joined the US Marine Corps and served honorably during the Korean War. He received the Purple Heart Medal among other commendations.
Mick was employed with International Harvester for 27 years and then went on to own and operate Diesel Injections of Cary for over 23 years. He met and married Norma Bell 62 years ago and together they raised two children. Mick was a longtime member of Creedmoor Road Baptist Church, serving as Sunday School Teacher, Deacon and Treasurer. He lived his life focused on church, family and work – in that order.
He is lovingly remembered by his wife, Norma Bell Pettus; son: David L. Pettus and wife Juanita, of Garner; daughter: Cynthia Walker, of Atlanta, GA; five grandsons: Jason Walker and wife Michelle, Drew Walker and wife, Tracie, Blake Walker, Garret Pettus and Christain Pettus; and two great-grandchildren: Saby Gavin Pettus and Neal Garnett Walker.
Mick was preceded in death by his parents, by his brother Bob Pettus and by his son-in-law Don Walker and daughter-in-law Angie Briggs Pettus.
Family will receive friends on Friday, August 18th from 12:30 pm – 2:00 pm at Creedmoor Road Baptist Church, with a memorial service to be held at 2:00 pm. Military Honors will conclude the service at church.
