Melody Faith (Adiska) Reedy, 64, was a beloved wife, mother, nurse, and friend. She was born in March 1961 in Portland, Oregon to Burton James Adiska and Naomi Ruth Adiska, and passed away on October 7th, 2025 in Raleigh, North Carolina after a bout with aggressive cancer.
Her parents Burton and Naomi preceded her in death in 2024 and 2021 respectively. She is survived by her husband Thomas Reedy and her children Angela Thompson and Michael Reedy. Mel is also survived by her siblings who all reside in Pennsylvania, Cindy Ewing, David Adiska, and Stephen Adiska, and her nieces and nephews Lisa, Brad, and Greg.
She wanted to be a mother more than anything else, though her mother Naomi drew her into nursing school in what would start a lasting and fulfilling career. Melody gained many dear colleagues and close friends in her 42 years of nursing, first at a nursing home, then at VA hospitals in Beckley, WV and Durham, NC. She achieved her 30 year pin as an LPN at Rex Surgery Center and was nearing retirement when she finally had to go on disability after her diagnosis.
Melody was known as a nurturer. She brought snacks for her doctors and nurse buddies, was known for her delicious baking and excellent pies, and cared for many animals at home, including chickens, ducks, peacocks, rescue dogs, cats, and various small birds. She was both pragmatic and whimsical, frequenting estate sales to immerse herself in others’ lives, adding to her rustic and eclectic style of clothes and deco at home. She was known to bring plants everywhere - transplanting them around the house, potting them inside, giving them to family members, and bringing them to work. Her artistry came naturally, shown in various craft and homemaking projects around the house, and those interests inspired her children in their artistic hobbies.
Mel’s lasting impact is one of love, laughter, encouragement, determination, and drive. There were times when you couldn’t tell her no. There were times when she would champion what you loved harder than you did. She was the light of the family and easily remembered by everyone she touched for her genuine kindness and humor. Melody wore her heart on her sleeve and lived boldly, inspiring others to do the same.
A celebration of life was held at the chapel of Mitchell Funeral Home, on the 25th of October at 2pm. Attendees are encouraged to wear color if they like, and their most favorite or whimsical item to honor Mel’s lasting sense of wonder.
