Michael James Hollis, 89, passed away as he always desired, peacefully in his own home, on Saturday, July 6, 2013. James Hollis was a veteran of World War II, a First Sergeant in military intelligence during the invasion of Normandy on D-Day plus four. He was wounded in combat, earning the Purple Heart and numerous other distinctions.
A graduate of the University of Pittsburgh in accounting, he worked briefly for Ford Motor Company before beginning a lifelong career as a comptroller for Burroughs Welcome and Company Pharmaceuticals. During his long tenure, he organized the Welcome Federal Credit Union and opened it’s very first IRA.
Hollis was preceded in death by his devoted wife of 63 years, Lorraine A. Hollis, on June 16, 2012. He is survived by two sons, James G. Hollis, of Deerfield, IL and Thomas M. Hollis and wife, Ann, of Zebulon; grandchildren, Lindsay and Breanne Hollis, of Zebulon; and a brother and sister, Peter and Irene Holubz.
Graveside Service will be held 11AM Wednesday, July 10, 2013, at Raleigh Memorial Park, 7501 Glenwood Ave., Raleigh, NC 27612.
