

Milton (Milt) Gustave Emery, Jr. passed away peacefully on July 9, 2014 surrounded by his family in Raleigh, NC. He was born on January 20, 1934 in Pittsburgh, PA, to Milton (Doc) Gustave Emery, Sr. and Rachel Evans Emery. Milt graduated from Peabody High School in 1952 and received a full baseball scholarship to attend the University of Pittsburgh. In 1955, Milt received the Athletic Committee Award from Pitt and had his name inscribed on the Varsity Walk between the Cathedral of Learning and Heinz Chapel.
Upon graduating, Milt accepted his commission as a Lieutenant in the United States Air Force and was stationed at Lackland Air Force Base in Texas, where he served as a navigator. On April 30, 1956, Milt married his high school sweetheart Margaret Roberts Siviter. The couple then moved to Tampa, Florida where Milt flew out of MacDill Air Force Base. After serving his country, he began his professional career working with ALCOA in Pittsburgh, PA. Milt followed his dream of joining Merrill Lynch Pierce Fenner Smith where he had a 30 year career in Charlotte, NC.
Milt was a kind and caring man who enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. He was interested in all sports but especially enjoyed playing golf, bridge and cheering on his beloved Pittsburgh Panthers.Milt spent 20 years coaching with the YMCA and Myers Park Trinity, Pony, Colt and Babe Ruth Baseball Leagues.
Milt was a member of Myers Park Presbyterian Church in Charlotte, NC, the Pittsburgh Panther Club and the Pitt Varsity Letter Club. Milt is survived by his wife, Margaret Siviter Emery of Raleigh, NC; his three children, Ann Wooten (Ronald) of Raleigh, David Emery (Angela) of Waxhaw and Doug Emery (Sandra) of Matthews, NC; his sister, Joanne Redshaw (John) of Camp Hill, PA; eight grandchildren and a great-grandson.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to The American Heart Association. A memorial service will be held at Myers Park Presbyterian Church on Monday, July 14, 2014 at 2:00 pm. There will be a private burial at Homewood Cemetery in Pittsburgh, Pa. on Tuesday, July 22, 2014.
