Mishew was a graduate of Salem Academy, attended Sweet Briar College, and graduated from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. She was a past member of the Junior League of Raleigh and the Rex Healthcare Guild Board. She loved good books and was an avid reader her entire life. Mishew enjoyed playing tennis and bridge. She loved boating, whether it was in Carteret County, up and down the east coast, or cruising throughout the world. Atlantic Beach was a second home to Mishew. She enjoyed Atlantic Beach as a child and later as a teenager where she met Murray. She and Murray shared their love of Atlantic Beach with their children, grandchildren and friends. Mishew had a life filled with an abundance of blessings and was always grateful for the wonderful people God placed along her life’s journey.
She is survived by her husband of 67 years, Thomas Murray Williams; daughters, Mishew Williams Paynter and her husband Bill R. Paynter, Jr. of Raleigh, Elizabeth Williams Martin and her husband John G. Martin of Lookout Mountain, TN; and son, Thomas Murray Williams, Jr. and his wife, Kathryn Bilbro Williams of Raleigh. She is also survived by six grandchildren, William Marshall Paynter, John Thomas Paynter, Elizabeth Murray Martin, John Marshall Martin, Philip Spaulding Martin, and Caroline Cooper Williams. In addition, she is survived by her sister, Gayle Cooper Kearns of High Point, NC, and sisters-in-law, Bettie White Cooper, Elizabeth Williams Tyler, and Margaret Cheatham Williams of Raleigh.
She was preceded in death by her brother, Marshall Young Cooper, Jr. of Henderson, NC.
The family would like to especially thank Wendy McQueen, Barbara Owako, Lillian ElamAlston and Tenessa High for their dedicated and loving care to Mishew.
The family will receive friends in the Parish Hall of Christ Episcopal Church on May 14, 2024, beginning at 12:30 pm, followed by a funeral service at 2:00 pm. A private family burial at Historic Oakwood Cemetery will take place after the service.
