

Dr. Shaw graduated from Johns Hopkins in 1939 with a Doctors Degree in Electrical Engineering. After his graduation he married the love of his life, Ruth Corrine Blakeslee, on August 18, 1939. He accepted a position with Corning Glass Works, in Corning, New York where he stayed for some thirty years and lived in places like Danville, Kentucky, Bradford, Pa. and ending up in Raleigh, NC in August of 1962. Upon leaving Corning he accepted a position as Assistant Dean of Research in the School of Textiles at North Carolina State University. Upon his retirement Dr. Shaw and his wife traveled extensively to all corners of the world and enjoyed every minute of their retired life together. He was an Amateur Radio enthusiast and enjoyed gardening while at home.
He will be fondly remembered for his great expression of Love and kindness to his wife Ruth, his children and everyone that came into his life.
Dr. Shaw was an avid Sports Car enthusiast and easily identifiable driving his bright red MG Roadster back and forth to work for many years. He was a member of the Rotary Club of Raleigh and a member of White Memorial Presbyterian Church.
Dr. Shaw is survived by his wife of 73 years, Ruth Blakeslee Shaw; son: Chris Shaw of Waynesville, NC and Dr. Nancy Hemmes of New York City. He is also survived by his grandchildren: Josh, Alex, Jennifer, and Todd and his great grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 2:00 to 3:00 PM Sunday, September 23, 2012 at Mitchell’s Funeral Home, 7209 Glenwood Ave, Raleigh, NC. A memorial service will begin at 3:00 PM in the Chapel of Mitchell Funeral Home. Inurnment will follow in Raleigh Memorial Park.
