Nancy Perkins Edwards

Born April 29, 1936 in Roxboro, North Carolina, Nancy was the daughter of the late former Clerk of Superior Court, George R. Perkins, Sr. and Mrs. Nora Perkins. Nancy was a graduate of Roxboro High School and Meredith College where she honed her skills and passion for music and in educating others. She began her teaching career in Hampton, VA in 1958 and spent an additional 30 years as a Choral Music teacher in Wake County Public Schools at both Hugh Morson and West Millbrook Middle Schools. After retiring from teaching, Nancy discovered her second career as a Receptionist at the NCSU Wolfpack Club, where she proudly served for over 20 years. She was a devoted member of First Baptist Church of Raleigh. Nancy’s true joy was in playing the piano and in entertaining. This was a unique and special gift that she shared with others continuously throughout her life.

Nancy was preceded in death by her husband of 36 years, Robert Luther Edwards.

She is survived by her two daughters, Carol Edwards Harris and husband Reid, their two daughters, Nora and Lucy; and Susan Edwards Haller and husband Jack, their two sons, John and Patrick, all of Raleigh. Nancy is also survived by her brother, George R. Perkins and wife Hazel of Sanford; her sister, Susan Meshaw and husband Dewey of Cary; as well as by numerous nieces and nephews, a large extended family; and her friend and devoted caregiver, Kimberly Griffin.

A memorial service to honor and celebrate Nancy's life was held at 12 noon, Tuesday, June 27th, at First Baptist Church of Raleigh. A reception for friends and family took place following the service at the Haller household in Raleigh.
