Nancy G. Upchurch

On Friday, March 28, 2025, Nancy Goodwin Upchurch, 74, of Raleigh, North Carolina, left her earthly bonds to the loving arms of her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. She was born to the late Loomis Carl Goodwin and Ollie Belle Johnson Goodwin on October 5, 1950 in Raleigh, North Carolina.

She was preceded in death by her father, Loomis Carl Goodwin; her dear mother, Ollie Belle Johnson Goodwin; her sister-in-law, Margaret Paige Goodwin, and her beloved pastor and friend, Dr. Edwin G. Moore.

She is survived by her husband of thirteen years, Franklin Upchurch, Jr.; her daughters, Crystal Karen Wright and Kathleen Elaine Wright Immler of Raleigh; her granddaughter, Lauren Kathleen Wright of Wendell; her grandson, Nicholas Alexander Immler; her “bubba,” Carl Douglas Goodwin; her sisters, Jackie Parker and husband Dave, Pat Aycock, and Dolores “Dolo” Gearig; and last but not least, her faithful pet, Barney.

She was a lifetime member of Ebenezer Baptist Church, where she was the pianist from her teenage years throughout her life until her recent illness. She sang in the choir, in trios, and in a traveling chorus. She was beloved by her church, community, and all her extended family and friends. She will be greatly missed.

Her service will be held in the Chapel at Mitchell Funeral Home on April 7, 2025 at 3:00 PM with interment following at Raleigh Memorial Park. The family will receive friends and loved ones in the Chapel at Mitchell Funeral Home the hour prior to the service, beginning at 2:00 PM. Join us in celebrating her life and her homegoing.
