Patricia A. Highland

She is predeceased by her husband Frederick Highland.

Born in Toronto, Canada, Patricia’s life was punctuated by travel, from the early years when her family relocated to Britain just prior to World War II and then back to Canada. She married Frederick, an American from Chicago, in the early 1960s. They spent the next decade traveling and living overseas in Sicily, Spain and Mexico before settling in New York City where she worked as a secretary for American Express. Later she started her own business, The Highland Gardener, and volunteered with the Green Gorillas in neighborhood community gardens. Patricia retired to Raleigh in the late 1990s and volunteered at the JC Raulston Arboretum and at childhood literacy groups in town. She loved nature, the arts, good food, travel, and her many beloved cats. She was an advocate for the underdog with a special passion for the rights of the Palestinians. She leaves behind a wide circle of friends in Raleigh and others scattered around the world who will dearly miss her saucy wit, her keen intellect and her friendship and compassion for others.
