

Patricia Pittman Matthews died Monday, July 26, 2010. Mrs. Matthews, born on August 7, 1934 in Richmond, Virginia, was the daughter of the late John Melson Pittman, Sr. and Evelyn Sykes Pittman. She was also preceded in death by her brother, John Melson Pittman, Jr.
Patricia is survived by her husband of 54 years, Ch. Col. Joseph C. Matthews, III, USAF(Ret) and sons, Joseph Mark Matthews of Raleigh, David Melson Matthews and Timothy Carson Matthews of Cary and daughters, Virginia Lee Matthews of Sunrise, Florida and Sujin Yi Matthews of Raleigh. She is also survived by her sister, Evelyn Bridges, of Hamlet and her brother and his wife, Ronny and Carolyn Pittman of Raleigh. and by her sister-in-law, Margaret Pittman of Raleigh and many nieces and nephews.
She was a graduate of Hugh Morson High School in Raleigh and Parkland Community College in Champaign, Illinois. She was deeply involved throughout her life in church and civic affairs in both civilian and Air Force communities.
A memorial graveside service, conducted by the Rev. Betty Connette, will be held at 11:00 on Thursday July 29, at Historic Oakwood Cemetery followed by lunch and visitation at the Western Blvd. Presbyterian Church, 3900 Kaplan Drive where she had been a member for over 50 years. Memorial contributions may be made to the church.
The family will receive visitors at Brown-Wynne Funeral Home, 300 St. Mary's Street from 6 to 8 PM on Wednesday July 28 and at the church following the interment.
