

Paul H. Urben, Jr., age 92, of Raleigh, NC, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his loving family on December 22, 2025, following complications from surgery. Born on December 13, 1933, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, he was the son of Paul H. Urben, Sr. and Frances Hughes Urben.
After completing high school in the early 1950s, Paul honorably served his country in the U.S. Navy. His commitment to service exemplified his sense of duty and patriotism.
On January 19, 1957, Paul married the love of his life Nancy McKay Urben. Together, they shared 68 years of marriage, building a life centered on love and family.
Paul developed a keen interest in golf in his late forties, quickly cultivating a strong enthusiasm for the sport. Despite maintaining one of the higher handicaps at Raleigh Country Club, Paul achieved two holes-in-one during his time there. Paul remained an active participant, often walking the course regularly until the last eighteen months of his life.
Beyond his love for golf, Paul valued his relationships with family and friends, cherishing time spent together and nurturing meaningful connections throughout his life.
Paul was preceded in death by his parents, Paul and Frances Urben; brothers, Richard, Thomas, and Jack Urben; and his son, Steven Urben.
He is survived by his devoted wife, Nancy McKay Urben; children David Urben (Laura), Catherine McMath (Robert), and John Urben; grandchildren, Melissa McMath, Sarah McMath, Sienna Urben, and Jacob Urben; brothers Michael Urben (Renee) and Frank Urben (Caroline); sisters Virginia Simon and Judy Murphy; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Paul is recognized for his unwavering commitment to his family and friends, his notable sense of humor, and his deep regard for those within his circle.
Family and friends are invited to gather in remembrance of Paul H. Urben, Jr. at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church for a Funeral Mass at 12:00 PM on Saturday, January 10, 2026, followed by interment at Raleigh Memorial Park. Prior to the service, a visitation will take place at 11:00 AM providing an opportunity for loved ones to pay their respects and offer condolences.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made to Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, 2718 Overbrook Dr, Raleigh, NC 27608, honoring Paul's memory.
